About

Bert Kalfsbeek (1960) was born in Elst, Holland. He has taken photographs for about thiry years now. Initially, his work consisted mainly of landscape photography, but eventually the emphasis shifted to documentairy photography. Berts photos are mainly about people, and especially about people in their own environment. In doing so Bert tries not to be an intruder. He prefers to be a beholder in the background and strives to capture the lives that unfold before his eyes in a photographic story. This can be on another continent, it might as well be around the corner. For his landscape photography Bert mainly used film for color slides. When he started doing documentary photography he discovered the extra impact black and white images can have. They still make up a large portion of his work, but with the introduction of digital photography the share of color photographs has increased again. His work can be seen on a regular basis at exhibitions in and around Elst. Besides his free work he also works on assignment. He contributed to the following projects:
  • Paerdemarckt After Nature (2001) Stichting Kiek
  • Kieken in de Overbetuwe (2005) Bon Vivant Publishers
  • Met hart en ziel (2006) Bon Vivant Publishers
